A talented young skier from Milngavie is stepping up to the slopes thanks to support from her long-time opticians.

Rising Young Skier, Isla

Isla Cameron’s parents first took her to Specsavers when she was 18-months old, and since then she has continued to be a loyal customer to her local store in Milngavie, who have supported her ongoing visual needs with the best care possible.

Now 14-years old, Isla is thriving as a rising star, recently recruited for Snowsport Scotland’s U16 Alpine Ski Team for the 2025/26 season.

Supporting performance through clear vision

Specsavers Milngavie, which is locally owned and run, has provided Isla with a one-year supply of contact lenses as support her season on Team Scotland.

Sarah Vallance, store director at Specsavers Milngavie, says: ‘We’ve been really keen to get more involved in the local community this year as a way of giving back, and we’re always looking for new ways to make a positive impact.

‘When we found out Isla had made the Scotland skier team, we were absolutely delighted for her and immediately wanted to show her how proud we all are.

‘Having cared for Isla’s sight since she was a young child, we’ve always known what a committed and talented young woman she is, so we’re proud to be able to support her in any way we can as she competes on both local and national slopes.’

Family appreciation for meaningful local sponsorship support

Isla and her dad Donald Cameron recently visited the town centre store to express their thanks ahead of Isla travelling to Austria to compete with her team. Donald explained how much of a positive effect the generous offer from the store will have for Isla over the next year.

Donald says: ‘We’re absolutely delighted by the store’s incredibly kind offer of providing Isla with a year’s supply of contact lenses for 2026. This support will make a genuine difference to her training and racing, especially given the demands of her sport and her ongoing visual needs.

‘Isla has been visiting the store for her sight needs since she was very young, and the care and support she has received from the team at Milngavie has played a part in her journey. We’re genuinely touched that the store is proud of how far she has come, it just shows how much they care about their customers.

‘Thanks again to everyone at Specsavers Milngavie, this support means a great deal to Isla and to all of us.’
