MCFR is a volunteer organisation providing assistance to the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS), through the 999 system, on Response Times, for Cardiac Arrests, in the Milngavie and Bearsden area. Training and support are provided by the SAS. We provide practical demonstrations of CPR and the use of Defibrillator.
CFR’s volunteer for a shift on a rota basis and can choose what times and days suit. The aim is to provide as much cover for the community as possible, both night and day.
When a 999 call is received at the Ambulance Operations Centre it is quickly screened to see if a CFR could be of assistance in the emergency. A CFR role is to support the Scottish Ambulance Service by offering early, life giving treatment whilst the ambulance and paramedics make their way to the scene.
First Responders are trained specifically to deal with heart (cardiac) emergencies and therefore are not called out to every 999 call. FR are only called out to emergencies that they have adequate training to respond to.
As all the FR are local volunteers, their knowledge of the town and surrounding areas offers them the ability to respond to the emergency quickly and efficiently.
