From a Real Reindeer parade, Snowman Hunt, magical window displays and welcoming atmosphere, Milngavie has created a family destination that appeals.

Milngavie Gathering Hub

Following completion of the central precinct’s Gathering Hub in late November; the annual festive period in Milngavie was launched on Saturday 27 November with a parade through the town and Christmas tree lights switch on.

The magical scene of Santa and his real Cairngorm Reindeer parading through the streets lifted the whole community spirit, along with live singer’s on stage and festive characters entertaining visitors.

This annual event has grown in local popularity as it has managed to capture the imagination and support of local people and businesses who make it happen.

Tony I’Anson, manager of the Milngavie BID commented “the efforts that many businesses make to decorate their window displays are becoming more spectacular each year. Over 100 businesses also decorated the mini potted-Christmas trees we supplied, and participated in the Snow Man hunt. The local community support has also been inspiring as we always aim to include everyone who wants to participate in the festive showcase.”

“It’s also the small engaging efforts that the public seem to react to as much as the larger attractions. Waffles outside the Phone Repair shop spring to mind as well as groups of primary school children with their snow man trail maps.”

New Festive Lights for Milngavie

The annual Christmas tree lights switch on was further improved this year with additional festive lights at each end of Milngavie’s precinct. The Milngavie businesses invested over £5,000 in the extra lights as part of a phased improvement over the next three years. This is part of the Milngavie BID’s strategy of continuous improvement of Milngavie to appeal to the general pubic, as are all the events the businesses pay for any all other Milngavie related activities.

The numbers of people following these channels has increased exponentially, especially during the pandemic. As a result, all efforts to reach the local population, can be made effectively by the BID team to let as many know what is going on Milngavie.

Articles and adverts have also been posted on a monthly basis in the Bearsden and Milngavie Community Magazine, to reach a local audience. The community magazine is delivered monthly to 20,500 homes.
